LIO MALCA IS PLEASED TO PRESENT AN EXHIBITION FEATURING QUAYOLA’S LATEST VIDEO WORK, JARDINS D’ÉTÉ (GARDENS OF SUMMER).
The exhibition will be open to the public starting February 24th through May, 2017 Monday – Friday, 10am-6pm and by appointment.
Jardins d’Été consists of a series of 4K-resolution digital video paintings inspired by gardens of Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire. A wide range of floral compositions manipulated by high winds are filmed at night in ultra-high definition. Quayola edits his videos with complex computational analyses of motion, composition, and color schemes which become the foundation for the creation of new digital paintings. This digital painting is from an edition of 6.
Born Davide Quayola in 1982 in Rome, Italy, Quayola is a visual artist based in London where he lives and works. He focuses on the dialogues and unpredictable collision, tensions, and equilibrium between the real and artificial, the figurative and abstract, the old and new. His works explore photography, geometry, time-based digital sculptures in captivating audiovisual installations and performances. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Digital Media from the University of Arts, London. In 2013, Quayola was awarded the Golden Nica at Ars Electronica.

Quayola is represented by bitforms gallery in New York. Concurrent to Jardins d’Été at Lio Malca, bitforms gallery presents Fragments, Quayola's second solo exhibition with the gallery. The exhibition opens on February 25 and is on view through April 9, 2017. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday 11am-6pm, Sunday from 12-6pm, and by appointment.
